The Attention-Span Myth

Reaction by Jordan Guy

This is a really interesting argument. Is a long attention span a good thing? Should we only focus on one thing? Should we not take several things into account before going after a single thing? I do not feel like the web is affecting our attention spans at all. If anything it is just showing how easily we are distracted. I think the internet just gives us another place to amuse our times with. How Long we pay attention is due to will power. The attention span myth is just way to say “I stopped caring.”

In Cybertherapy, Avatars Assist With Healing

Reaction by Jordan Guy

This seems like a very novel approach to therapy. It makes sense in a way because people can reveal what every they want. There is not threat of intimidation from a computer. It is just a stress free environment in which anyone can reveal what every they want. Hopefully as the technology improve, the ability to help people also improves. It was also very interesting to read about the deceives other uses. I feel like this software has a lot of potential if it is used properly.

An Exhibition That Gets to the (Square) Root of Sumerian Math

Reaction by Jordan Guy

Ancient information is such a precious resource that should always be cherished. There is always something to be learned from the past. No matter what we say, we are similar to the people that have come before us.That is a fact of life. What we do and how we do it may be new but what happens is a repetition of the past in some way. Also its always very interesting to see how other people did things. Like to have a completely different system of counting makes sense because no two people develop the same way. That end result is always very interesting to the other side because its foreign. Seeing something from another point of view has never been our species best ability but it should be.

Netflix’s Move Onto the Web Stirs Rivalries

Reaction by Jordan Guy

Netflix has always been ahead of the game. They have always look beyond what they have now to what they will need in the future and it serves them well. I think its a good thing that they are changing older forms of media companies. Even if Netflix does not last, it will change our industry. That is good. I hope Netflix does continue to move forward because it knows what to do in our changing economy, which is a great thing. Competition has never been a bad thing. It only allows for the creation of better end results.

Web 2.0 and/as The Apocalypse: What The Terminator Has to Teach Us About Our Future

Reaction by Jordan Guy

I think the shift that is occurring now with in our society is no different from the millions of steps forward we as humans have taken over the years. I think people have a innate fear that for some reason they are the end. We reproduce because we want our blood to continue, we seek for ways to be remembered because we are so deathly afraid of change. But I think time will always move forward. And for the most part we will move with it, forever forward.

Where Anonymity Breeds Contempt

Reaction by Jordan Guy
I hate trolls, like most people. It angers me to see when people just want to make others angry. This people are often pushed around in real life so they take their frustrations to the internet. It is such a bad practice. I hope that soon companies will create some form of control. It could be in the form of reveling the true identity of a person if enough complaints are lodged or just removing users all together. Something needs to be done because not everyone is strong enough to just ignore those people.

An Odyssey Through the Brain, Illuminated by a Rainbow

Reaction by Jordan Guy

The mind is crazy place. I think its a great idea to try to fully understand it because I would love to use all of its potential. Understand how we work is a crazy path of work because if we understand how we work, what is to stop us from changing how we work? How far will this information take us? I would also like to say that I don’t think this field of study will ever show us the mind we want to see. We want to see the interactive landscape that we build upon. We want to see our imaginations. But at this point in time, I do not think it is possible.
